World No. 5 Robin Söderling is still having problems with a wrist injury and it may cause him to miss the US Open in two weeks time.
The wrist injury occurred during a gym session during the Swedish Open in Båstad. Söderling heard a crack in his right wrist attempting to do a specific exercise at a one of his gym sessions. The doctors have confirmed it’s a ligament problem.
Robin Söderling has not played since the SkiStar Swedish Open final four weeks ago. The 27-year-old won the Båstad tournament defeating Spain’s David Ferrer 6-2 6-2 in the final. He has also been missing in action at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments in both Montréal and Cincinnati.
2011 has been a good year for the Swede. He is the titleholder in Brisbane, Rotterdam, Marseille and Båstad. Robin reached the quarterfinals of the French Open where he lost to Rafael Nadal.
Robin tried to have a hit on Wednesday last week but could still feel the pain in his wrist. Söderling’s newly appointed coach, Swede Fredrik Rosengren said, “Wrist injuries are serious and we are very worried about it. The last time Robin tried to practice, the wrist was still hurting him.”
Rosengren continued, “It’s best of five over there and you can’t win seven matches if you’re not prepared. There is no reason to compete in a Grand Slam if you’re not fit,” Fredrik Rosengren said to Swedish newspaper Expressen.
