Pete Sampras, John McEnroe, The Bryan Brothers, The Jenson Brothers…. What no Murray Bros? Nope. Here’s the dope. The NY Post “Page Six” mentions a really wacky but interesting concept for a charity exo. Its sounds like a ton of fun. I’m serious. No not Mac serious but serious.
Some players will use current day rackets versus some guys using old wooden rackets from back in the day. Oh no I hope I didn’t insult any of the readers. Anybody out there still playing with wood?
The event takes place in NYC around the US Open. Sounds like an invite only and watch on the TENNIS CHANNEL. And direct tv. The event is being held at the Lexington Armory. (Not much room for spectators ?)
After the tennis will be a concert by Cee Lo Green and a DJ set by Doug E. Fresh.
Geezer and Big Boss both played decades of tennis with wooden rackets. They both express great love for some of their old frames. The beauty and flex of a Davis. The balance and feel of a Dunlop Maxply Fort. The stiffness of the all time best seller. The Jack Kramer.
The wood rackets and the great old balls made mostly of felt instead of this nylon type (synthetic) balls of today.
Try hitting with a wood racket… Try against a wall… I just did… They still feel great. Heavy. Solid. Familiar.
Let’s go way back into Geezers closet. We just tried a” fishtail”. Wow. That was a thrill. But we used a foam ball so not to hurt the old beauty.
Tell us. Did you play with wood? Do you still?
