World No. 1 Novak Djokovic reached the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup in Montréal today when he took out Croat Marin Cilic 7-5 6-2.

Djokovic has lost one match this year and is the likely Champion here in Montréal this week. The Serb was not that happy with the way he played today against Cilic, “It wasn’t a beautiful match to play a and to watch. But I guess in the right moments I was trying to keep the ball in the court, make my opponent make an unforced error. I was just more patient and played well. So that’s the positive.”

Czech Tomas Berdych survived the big serving Ivo Karlovic to advance into the quarterfinals. The number seven seed had a 6-3 7-6 (2) win today and will now play Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia.

Tipsarevic took out Ivan Dodig, who defeated World No. 2 Rafael Nadal in the second round. Tipsarevic breezed through the match against Dodig with a two set win 6-1 6-4.

The 25-year-old Berdych is currently ranked No. 9 on the singles ranking. Berdych is looking to win his first title for the year here in Montréal. Tipsarevic is the winner of both of their previous meetings. The last match was at Davis Cup in 2010 when Serbia played the Czech Republic.

Tomas Berdych has been using a new Head racket this week. “Weight and balance is really important for the racquet. I’m a bit sensitive about my grips, which are made from Roman Prokesh, who works with Head and they are trying to find the best way. He is trying to make the special grips for me,” Berdych said.

Swiss No. 2 Stanislas Wawrinka was aware of the fine form Kevin Anderson displayed to take out Andy Murray in the previous round. The number fourteen seed Wawrinka toughed out three sets 6-4 4-6 6-4 to reach the quarterfinal of Coupe Rogers. The Swiss Davis Cup player will face the winner of American Mardy Fish and Ernests Gulbis of Latvia.

Even if Andy Murray’s singles campaign is over in Montréal he is still in the doubles with his brother Jamie. The Brits are now in the quarterfinals of the doubles after taking out the number eight seeds Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer 6-2 2-6 10-8. This is the sixth time the brothers are teaming up this season. They will play Tomas Berdych and Florian Mayer, who had a surprise win over Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi in the previous round.

The number two seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor enjoyed their second round two sets win over Sergiy Stakhovsky and Mikhail Youzhny 6-4 6-4. Mirnyi and Nestor will play two singles guys, who are still in the main draw singles Stanislas Wawrinka and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinals. The Swiss/French team had a great win over Wimbledon finalists Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau 6-4 6-3.

Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic cruised past Argentinians Juan Ignacio Chela and Juan Monaco 6-1 6-3.
