World No. 1 Novak Djokovic overcame Nikolay Davydenko of Russia 7-5 6-1 to move in to the third round at the Rogers Cup in Montréal.

The Serb came back from a double break down in the first set. Djokovic has not played an ATP Tour match since winning the Wimbledon final.

“He didn’t give me a lot of rhythm in the start of the match. I didn’t play a match for four weeks. It took me some time to get used to the conditions and get into the match.” Djokovic said.

Novak Djokovic has won the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments this year in Rome, Madrid, Miami and Indian Well. He started off the year with winning the Australian Open.

The Serbian superstar was reflecting on being the World No. 1, “Being No.1 is a big responsibility, not just on the court but off the court as well. Just trying to handle it in the best possible way, but on the other side trying to keep my life very simple, the way it was before.”

Marin Cilic will meet the World No. 1 in the third round. Cilic defeated World No. 19 Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina in two sets 6-3 6-4.

Cilic and Djokovic have played each other five times and Djokovic leads five matches to none. The last time the two played was in Davis Cup in 2010 when Novak won in three sets 6-3 6-3 6-2.

The number five seed Frenchman Gael Monfils won over American qualifier Alex Bogomolov Jr 6-2 7-6 (5).

Former World No. 1 Roger Federer is through to the third round at Rogers Cup after winning 7-5 6-3 over Canadian wildcard Vasek Pospisil. “I felt good. I’m still able to move. The match was tough because I was playing against a player I don’t know so will. It was my first match outdoors on hard court,” The Swiss said.

Federer will now meet Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the man who took out Roger in the quarterfinal of Wimbledon this year.

Tsonga had a great two set win over young up and coming Australian Bernard Tomic. The World No. 16 said, “Even if I beat him in Wimbledon, that doesn’t mean I will be able to beat him all the time, the Frenchman said about his next round opponent.”

Number eight seed Spaniard Nicolas Almagro booked a spot in the third round beating Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-2 7-6 (5). Almagro will now face France’s Richard Gasquet, who took out Thomasz Belluci of Brazil 6-1 6-4.
