Everyone’s favourite Swiss Super Star Roger Federer is turning 30 on Monday. He will celebrate his birthday in Montreal, Canada. Roger announced on Facebook today he has arrived in Montreal a little jetlagged. He will participate in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament next week.
The last time the nearly 30-year-old won the Rogers Cup was in 2006 when he defeated Frenchman Richard Gasquet in three sets. He also won the event in 2004. Roger will be seeded number three this year, which is also his current ATP Tour World Ranking. Ahead of him are in form Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
Federer has only won one tournament this year in Doha where he defeated Nikolay Davydenko in the final. The Swiss Maestros’ Grand Slam record this year is acceptable. He lost in the semi-final at Australian Open to Djokovic. He reached the final at Roland Garros losing to Rafael Nadal. His worst result came at Wimbledon where he lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinal.
It looks like Roger will have to step up his game a notch to be able to knock Novak Djokovic off the number one spot. Djokovic is in the zone so Roger needs to have a few tricks up his sleeve to be able to touch the mighty Serb.
The last time Federer held the No. One ranking was in May last year. We are hoping Roger will come back as the world number one player again. We would like to wish Roger a very Happy Birthday on Monday and all the best for the American Swing.
