WTT JUNIOR NATIONALS CHAMPIONSHIP - Update, Order of Play, Results   |

Teams from Texas and Southern California will battle for the national championship at the 2011 World TeamTennis Junior Nationals at the George E. Barnes Family Tennis Center at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning. The WTT Junior Nationals, which is hosted by WTT co-founder Billie Jean King, is a national junior invitational event featuring 16 coed teams from throughout the U.S. The teams use the World TeamTennis format during their three days of non-elimination draw competition.

Planet Texas edged Intermountain Immortals in a tight 37-35 win to advance to the Championship Finals. Planet Texas, representing the USTA Texas section, trailed by three games heading into mixed doubles. Texas and the USTA Intermountain squad split the two sets of mixed doubles but Planet Texas won enough games for the victory. Team members of Planet Texas, representing the USTA Texas section, are Nick Carpenter of New Braunfels, Texas; Nicholas Agritelley of Dallas; Joey Molina of Dallas; Rachel Baldree of Corpus Christi, Texas; Madison Craft of Frisco, Texas; and MacKenna Maddox, McKinney, Texas. Bobby Reeves is coach of Texas Planet.

Kramer’s Crushers, representing the Jack Kramer Club, handily defeated previously unbeaten USTA Southwest Sweetness 42-21 to punch their ticket into the Championship Final. Team members for Kramer’s Crushers are Jeffrey Hawke of Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.; Eric Lim of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.; Chris Dalton of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; Riley Morgan of Rolling Hills, Calif.; Nicole Scotten of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.; and Maddy Sung, Rolling Hills, Calif. Dennis Rizza is coach of the Crushers.

Two San Diego teams will play off for 5th place when Youth Tennis San Diego Sharks & Minnows take on the San Diego Attackers.

Action with all 16 teams continues with the final round on Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Barnes Tennis Center. All matches are open to the public.

Team members, ages 14-18, are selected based on their sectional and national rankings, but are not eligible if they attain a ranking of 1-150 on the USTA Seed Selection List as of May 2011.

The tournament follows the WTT non-elimination draw format with the 16 teams divided into four groups. Each team is comprised of three boys, three girls and a coach. Team matches consist of eight events; with two sets each of boys’ singles, girls’ singles, one set of boys’ and girls’ doubles, and two sets of mixed doubles. The first team to reach six games wins each set. A nine-point tiebreaker is played if a set reaches five all. One point is awarded for each game won. If necessary, Overtime and a Supertiebreaker are played to determine the outright winner of the match.
