Russian Mikhail Youzhny is the only player through to the quarter-finals at the Crédit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad 2011.
The former World No. 8 defeated Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 6-3 6-2. The Russian finished the match just in time before the heavy rain set in.
Youzhny will face the winner of Santiago Giraldo of Columbia or Austrian Andreas Haider Maurer.
World No. 47 and the number seven seed Pablo Andujar suffered a surprise loss to Germany’s Matthias Bachinger. The German is ranked 89 in the world and has mainly competed on the ATP Challenger Tour. This is Bachinger’s second tour level win this year.
Matthias Bachinger won in two straight sets 6-1 6-4. Waiting in the next round is France’s Julien Benneteau who played a tough match against Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic in the first round. Benneteau won 6-2 6-7 (6) 6-3.
Due to the rain only one doubles match was played yesterday. Julian Knowle and Igor Zelenay overcame Tomasz Bednarek and Andreas Siljestrom in the first round 6-2 4-6 10-8. Knowle and Zelenay will play the winner of Swiss wildcard team George Bastl and Alexander Sadecky and the number four seeds Johan Brunstrom and Adil Shamasdin.
