Australia’s Peter Luczak reached the second round at the Crédit Agricole Suisse Open in Gstaad yesterday. The World No. 248 beat Swiss wildcard Alexander Sadecky 3-6 6-3 7-6 (4). Number two seed Stanislas Wawrinka of Switerzland is waiting for “Looch” in the next round.
Russian Igor Andreev beat Germany’s Mischa Zverev 6-3 6-2 in 63 minutes. World number 78 Andreev has reached the final in Gstaad twice in 2004 and 2008. Andreev will play the winner of Marcel Granollers of Spain and Swiss wildcard and Swiss David Cup team member Stephane Bohli.
Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan defeated Austrian qualifier Marin Fisher in three sets 6-3 3-6 6-4. Istomin the world number 80 saved 12 out of 16 break points. In the second round the Uzbekistani will face Russian Mikhail Youzhny who is seeded number three this week.
Another Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer beat Swiss qualifier Yann Marti 6-1 6-4. Haider-Maurer reached a career high ranking of number 70 this week. The Austrian will compete against the winner of Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez or Santiago Giraldo of Colombia.
Only two doubles matches were played in Gstaad on Monday. Spanish team Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Marc Lopez took out the number three seeds James Cerretani and Philipp Marx 2-6 6-4 11-9.
The British team Jamie Delgado and Jonathan Marray lost in three sets to Frederico Gil and Lukas Rosol 6-3 3-6 10-4.
