ATP Studena Croatia Open 2011

The ATP Studena Croatia Open will take place in Umag next week. The tournament is an ATP World Tour 250 and is played on clay. The total prize money pot is €398 250.

Former World No. 3 and Croatian Ivan Ljubicic will join the field of clay court specialist next week. Ljubicic is currently ranked No. 31 in the world and is looking to improve his ranking.

Juan Carlos Ferrero former world number one will try to defend his title this year at the ATP Studena Croatia Open 2011. Juan Carlos beat Italian Potito Starace 6-4 6-4 in the final 2010. Ferrero won the title in Stuttgart two weeks ago.

Croatian Marin Cilic will be looking forward to play in front of his home crowd. Cilic has been in seven quarter-finals or better at seven ATP World Tour events this year.

Leos Friedl and Filip Polasek won last year’s title in the doubles beating Cermak and Mertinak 6-3 7-6 (7).

The wildcards have been given to a couple of young Croatian tennis players. Antonio Veic, Mate Pavic and Mate Delic. Croatia will also be represented in the main draw by Ivan Ljubicic, Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig. Cilic and Ljubicic were given wildcards as juniors to the Umag tournament.

The qualifying event will commence on Saturday July 23 and the main draw on Monday July 25.
