At the Atlanta Tennis Championships this week the two top seeded teams are out.
The all-American No. 1 seeds Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram had a surprise loss to the American wildcard team of Drake Bernstein and Kevin Kim 7-6 (3) 6-3. Bernstein/Kim will face Germany’s Matthias Bachinger and Frank Moser who beat young and upcoming American players Ryan Harrison and Donald Young 4-6 7-6 (3) 10-6.
The only seeds left in the tournament are the British players Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins. The Brits fought off Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria and American Ryan Sweeting winning 7-5 6-7 (5) 10-6. Fleming and Hutchins will play Igor Kunitsyn and Michael Russell in the second round.
10sballs.com’s favourite player and supporter The X-man Xavier Malisse and his partner Richard Berankis overcame Nicolas Mahut and Gilles Muller 4-6 6-4 1-5. X and his partner will face Somdev Devvarman and Treat Conrad Huey.
Devvarman and Huey were responsible for the No.3 seeds Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram’s loss. Huey/Devvarman beat the Israeli team in two straight sets 6-4 7-5.
The all Australian team Ashley Fisher and Stephen Huss lost to Alexander Bogomolov Jr and Matthew Ebden in two tough sets 7-6 (5) 7-5.
Bogomolov Jr and Ebden will have a difficult match in the second round against American team James Blake and John Isner. Blake/Isner overcame second seeds Marcelo Melo of Brazil and Jamie Murray of Great Britian 6-4 6-2.
At the bet-at-home Open – German Tennis Championships 2011 two out of four seeded teams have made it through to the semi-finals. Sergiy Stakhovsky and Radek Stepanek took out the No. 1 seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in the first round. Stepanek and Stakovsky will now face the No. 4 seeds Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek.
In the bottom half of the draw the No.3 seeds Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya will find the German pair of Andreas Beck and Christopher Kas on the other side of the net. Peya and Marach needed 3 tough sets to fight off singles guys Gael Monfils and Gilles Simon 6-3 6-7 (3) 10-5.
