The Family Circle Tennis Center and World TeamTennis Finals Weekend announce their support of the USTA’s Adopt-a-Unit Program, collecting supplies for an 80-soldier Army Military Police company from Fort Stewart in Savannah, Ga., which recently deployed to Afghanistan. Fans are asked to bring donation items to this world-class tennis event, and deposit them into collection bins at the venue entrance. As a partner of this important initiative, the USTA will send portable tennis equipment (nets, throw down lines, racquets, balls) to the deployed company. “We’re very proud to support our troops and partner with the USTA in this special program,” said Eleanor Adams, WTT Finals Weekend Tournament Co-Manager. “Service members will receive much appreciated personal items, an opportunity to play tennis while deployed, and, for some, an introduction to a sport they can enjoy upon returning home.”

Family members from the Fort Stewart unit will participate in a special on-court presentation before the Finals commence on Sunday, July 24th, 2011.

Suggested Donation Items:

Sunscreen, hand sanitizer, athletic socks, disposable razors, lip balm, sport magazines, baby wipes, travel size toiletries (shaving cream, toothbrushes, toothpaste, foot powder, shampoo), trail mix (no chocolate), hard candy, powder drink mix packets, inspirational books, DVDs, CDs, and flip flops.
