2011 US OPEN NATIONAL PLAYOFFS UPDATE  |

The 16 US Open National Playoffs Sectional Qualifying Tournaments concluded with the USTA Southern Sectional Qualifying Tournament in Alpharetta, Ga. Current doubles world No. 112 David Martin captured both the men’s singles title and the mixed doubles title. Martin, 30, of Tulsa, Okla., defeated Spaniard Guillermo Gomez, a former Georgia Tech player, in the singles final, 7-6(3), 6-2. He also teamed withChristina Fusano in mixed doubles to defeat Georgians Frank Solana and Jennifer Sinclair, 6-1, 6-1, in the mixed doubles. Martin did not lose one set in any of his singles or doubles matches. He peaked at No. 38 in the world in doubles in 2008, when he won the ATP event in San Jose, Calif., with Scott Lipsky. He has also advanced to five ATP doubles finals, including in Chennai, India, this year with Robin Haase, and competed in US Open doubles main draws in 1998 and from 2007 to 2010. Fusano, 31, of Plymouth, Calif., competed for the University of California and holds 12 career USTA Pro Circuit doubles titles.

In the women’s singles, Amanda McDowell, 23, of Atlanta, defeated 15-year-old junior standout Anne-Liz Jeukeng, of Kansas City, Mo., 6-1, 6-2, for the women’s title. McDowell won the 2008 NCAA women’s singles title at Georgia Tech and received All-America honors.

The US Open National Playoffs – Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles Championships will be held in conjunction with the New Haven Open at Yale, an Olympus US Open Series women’s event in August. The US Open National Playoffs – Men’s and Women’s Singles Championships will take place August 18-21, with the champions earning a wild card into the US Open Qualifying Tournament, held the week prior to the US Open. The US Open National Playoffs – Mixed Doubles Championship will take place August 24-27, with the champions receiving a mixed doubles main draw wild card into the 2011 US Open.
