The women’s tournament in Båstad finished yesterday. Collector Swedish Open was a success breaking their old crowd record. Swede Johanna Larsson made it to the final but unfortunately lost to Polona Hercog.
Yesterday another crowd record was broken for the men’s qualifying for the SkiStar Swedish Open. All the eight seeded players in the qualifying are in the qualifying final and they are all inside top 250 on the ATP Tour ranking.
The SkiStar Swedish Open kicks off with a free tennis clinic for children. In charge of the kids’ day is former Swedish tennis pro Magnus Gustafsson. Other coaches for the day are Sofia Arvidsson and Mikael Pernfors.
After the kids’ clinic the participants will get a free ticket to centre court to watch Robin Soderling and Andreas Vinciguerra practice. “Vince” and Robin played a great three set match at last year’s event. Both players will sign autographs after the session.
Later on in the afternoon the tournament’s first match will take place. Spain’s Tommy Robredo will take on Filippo Volandri of Italy.
The doubles draw has got some great teams playing. Top seeds are Swede Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau of Romania. Lindstedt and Tecau are coming straight from Wimbledon where they reached the final losing in three sets to Mike and Bob Bryan.
No. 2 seeds are Frantisek Cermak and Filippo Polasek. Swedish Davis Cup doubles player Simon Aspelin is teaming up with another Swede Andreas Siljestrom.
We are looking forward to a great tennis festival this week.
