Båstad update – WTA and ATP Tour
Swede Johanna Larsson lost in the Collector Swedish Open final to Polona Hercog of Slovenia 6-4 7-5. This is Larsson’s second loss in a WTA Tour final.
The girls played in front of a sell out crowd. Collector Swedish Open tournament director Nina Wennerström confirmed it was a record crowd watching the final.
Hercog said, “Johanna was amazing. She was fighting until the last point. It was tough with the crowd supporting her so much but it’s normal. I was ready for it. I had a feeling in myself I could win the tournament. I’m really happy to have my first tournament in my pocket.”
Lourdes Dominguez Lino and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez won the doubles finals beating Nuria Llagostera Vives and Arantxa Parra Santonja 6-3 6-3.
Bjorn Borg’s former coach Percy Rosberg was present at the draw for the ATP tournament SkiStar Swedish Open yesterday.
Seeded No.1 is Sweden’s Robin Soderling, who has got a bye in the first round. He will play the winner of Igor Andreev of Russia and Andreas Vinciguerra of Sweden.
No. 2 seed David Ferrer will play the winner of wildcard Christian Lindell of Sweden and Spain’s Pere Riba. Tomas Berdych is seeded No.3 and Nicolas Almagro No. 4.
