NEWPORT, R.I., July 5, 2011- On day two of the Campbell’s Hall of Tennis Championships all three wild cards, John Isner, Tommy Haas and Denis Kudla, advanced to the second round. No. 1 seed Isner defeated Karol Beck of Slovakia; former world No. 2 Haas overcame his German countryman Michael Berrer; and in the closest singles match of the day, 18-year-old Denis Kudla triumphed over Ivo Karlovic, 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4. In a close doubles match that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats, Marcelo Melo and Andre Sa, both of Brazil, defeated Alex Bogomolov Jr. and Dustin Brown, 67(1) 76(5) 10-6.

On Wednesday, play will begin at 11 am with last year’s finalist Olivier Rochus of Belgium facing Frenchman Nicolas Mahut, who was a finalist at the tournament in 2007. Next match on Center Court will be Isner versus Arnaud Clement of France, who overcame popular young American Ryan Harrison today. American Donald Young with face Tobias Kamke of Germany. Closing out the day on Center Court will be a battle of the young stars when Kudla faces Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, who is the second youngest player in the world top-100, currently ranked No. 60 at age 20.

About the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships

The Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, an ATP World Tour event, will be held July 4 – 10, 2011 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum in Newport, Rhode Island. The tournament draws 32 top male players to Newport direct from Wimbledon to compete for the Van Alen Cup and $442,500 in prize money. Hosted on the legendary grass courts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum, the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships is the only ATP World Tour event played on grass in North America.
