South Australian doubles player Jordan Kerr has received a wildcard in to The Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. Jordan will play with fellow Aussie Ashley Fisher. The 31-year-old has won the Newport title five times over the years, twice with American Jim Thomas.
Kerr’s career highest ranking was in 2008 when he reached No. 23. He was selected to play for Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Jordan and his partner Paul Hanley lost to Sweden’s Thomas Johansson and Simon Aspelin, who claimed the silver medals in Bejing.
Both Jordan’s parents are tennis coaches back in Adelaide, South Australia. Known to his friends as “Jordy”, he started playing tennis at the age of five.
Currently ranked No. 152 on the ATP Tour doubles ranking, Jordan is coming to Newport straight from a challenger in Winnetka, IL. Kerr partnered Travis Parrott of America and they reached the final. They lost to Treat Conrad Huey of the Philippines and Bobby Reynolds of the USA.
Fisher and Kerr are up against Arnaud Clement and Nicolas Mahut of France in the first round this week.
The No.1 seeds at The Campbell’s Hall of Fame doubles event are American team Scott Lipsky/Rajeev Ram. Seeded No.2 in the bottom half is Marcelo Melo and Andre Sa of Brazil.
