India’s top female player Sania Mirza is out of the ladies’ doubles event at Wimbledon after losing in the semi-finals. Mirza and her partner Elena Vesnina of Russia lost to the No. 2 seeds Kveta Peschke of Czech Republic and Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia, 6-3 6-1. Mirza and Vesnina were seeded No. 4 for the event. Srebotnik/Peschke are trough to the final where they will play the winner of Sabine Lisicki/Sam Stosur or Marina Erakovic and Tamarine Tanasugarn.
Mahesh Bhupathi, India’s super star and Davis Cup player has reached the semi-finals of the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon. Bhupathi plays mixed with Sania Mirza’s doubles partner Elena Vesnina. Bhupathi and Vesnina are seeded No.4 in the mixed. In the quarter-final they took out Jonathan Erlich and Shahar Peer from Israel, 6-4, 6-1. Their opponents in the semis will be Paul Hanley and Su-Wei Hsieh who took out Indian combination of Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza in three sets.
Battling it out for a spot in the final in the top half is Jurgen Melzer and Iveta Benesova who will play Daniel Nestor and Yung-Jan Chan.
The mixed semi-finals will be played on Court One. Bhupathi/Vesnina vs Hanley/Hsieh is second match after 13.00 followed by Melzer/Benesova vs Nestor/Chan.
