Wimbledon Day 9!
Day 9 of the 125th Wimbledon Championships was all about the men! The “big four” were in action today, but not all of them escaped the day unscathed.
In the biggest news of the day, Roger Federer fell in five sets to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. We didn’t see this one coming, especially after the Swiss took the first two sets! For a set-by-set recap of the match, click here.
Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic fought past Mardy Fish and Bernard Tomic, but both needed four sets to get the job done. Andy Murray, meanwhile, cruised past Feliciano Lopez in straight sets. Congrats to the final four!
It was a busy day for doubles, too … a lot of long battles were fought today! The top-seeded Bryan brothers outlasted Paul Hanley and Simon Aspelin, 6-3, 4-6, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 16-14. The No. 8 seeds, Lindstedt and Tecau, had a five-set win of their own, going 12-10 in the final set. In ladies’ doubles, Erakovic and Tanasugarn defeated No. 3 seeds Huber and Raymond, 4-6, 7-6 (1), 13-11.
Tomorrow, the women square off in their semifinal showdowns! In the first match on Centre Court, we will see Victoria Azarenka vs. Petra Kvitova. The second match will feature Maria Sharapova vs. Sabine Lisicki. Who will you be cheering on?
