MALAYSIAN OPEN, KUALA LUMPUR 2011 WEBSITE & TICKET SALES LAUNCHED. IPAD 2S TO BE WON EVERY DAY.

WILSON PROUD TO CONTINUE TOURNAMENT PARTNERSHIP.

Revamped ticketing strategy makes the tournament the best deal in tennis. Sportswear and equipment giant Wilson renews contract for the next three years with organisers IMG.

With the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2011 set to take place from 24 Sep – 2 Oct, Wilson today officially announced their continuing sponsorship of Malaysia’s biggest tennis showcase until 2013, in a signing ceremony held at the Wilson office in Menara IGB, KL.

Having been the tournament’s founding Official Ball & Apparel sponsor since the tournament’s inception in 2009, Wilson further extended their support of the ATP 250 event, becoming the Official Tennis Equipment Supplier for “Ball, Apparel & Stringer”.

“The brand Wilson is synonymous with quality tennis equipment and apparel. Wilson is the Official Ball sponsor for two out of the four Grand Slams and we are extremely pleased to reprise our role as Official Sponsors for what I believe is a very high quality event organised by IMG,” said Wilson Country Manager Mr. KL Choong.

The Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2011, an ATP 250 level event, is one of only five ATP World Tour Tournaments in Asia and has enjoyed positive reviews from sponsors, the ATP World Tour, spectators and the attending players in the two years it has been held.

A revolutionary ticketing strategy was also announced by IMG with features that include unreserved free seating on all days of the tournament, only one session per day on all days, and only one ticket price (all tickets are now classed as “Gold”) per day (with the exception of further discounted student tickets and a season pass, and a very limited number of reserved seats on the weekend). Ticket prices have been set at RM 10 for Monday and Tuesday, RM 15 for Wednesday and Thursday and RM 20 for Friday. The tournament is now the best deal in tennis globally. Tickets will cost RM 50 for Saturday and Sunday. For those fans that prefer to purchase a reserved seat on the finals weekend, a small number of seats have been set-aside on one side of the stadium to accommodate such patrons. On court box seats with hospitality provided by the Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur, can be purchased on a per seat per day basis from Friday to Sunday. Tickets are now on sale via the tournament website or direct from TicketPro.

“The ATP World Tour in Malaysia has been a resounding success since we organised the first tournament in 2009, and Wilson’s continuing and increased support is a testament to this success. With our new ticketing strategy, well known marketing activities which include our signature daily catch the ball promotions, with popular iPad 2 daily prizes and more, we are looking to take the tournament to the next level and in doing so, continue to do our part, along with our valued friends at the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia, to further increase the appeal of tennis within the country,” said Tournament Director & Senior Vice President of IMG, Nick Freyer.

In line with the continued sponsorship, the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2011 will boast the latest imported Wilson performance tennis apparel which will be available for sale at the Wilson booth during the tournament. In addition, other attractive promotions on tennis racquets and limited edition items such as jumbo tennis balls, mini-ball key chains & other accessories will also be made available to the public.

Also announced was the launch of the new and revamped website which can be found at www.MalaysianOpenTennis.com. The site is now accepting applications for volunteers and event staff who might wish to join the tournament team for 2011.

Last year’s tournament saw Russian Mikhail Youzhny capture the singles crown in a thrilling three-hour classic, with another Russian Nikolay Davydenko emerging victorious in 2009. While the player list for this year’s edition is yet to be released by the ATP World Tour, the tournament is once again expected to attract a large number of exciting players from around the world.
