Montréal, le 15 juin 2010 – En compagnie des représentants gouvernementaux ayant financé le projet, Tennis

Canada, représenté par le président Michael Downey, le vice-président du tennis professionnel au Québec

Eugène Lapierre et le vice-président du développement de l’élite Louis Borfiga, a inauguré ses nouveaux

terrains de terre battue au Centre national d’entraînement (CNE) du Stade Uniprix.

« Il s’agit d’une journée historique pour le tennis au Canada et un exemple parfait de ce qu’on peut

accomplir en travaillant ensemble pour le bénéfice de l’excellence sportive, » a déclaré Michael Downey.

« Nous sommes reconnaissants envers nos partenaires gouvernementaux pour leur investissement dans ce

projet qui renforce notre engagement dans le développement des athlètes et du tennis. Ce projet nous

aidera à continuer à obtenir des succès sur le plan international en plus d’offrir plus d’occasions de jouer à

des joueurs actifs.

Situés sur le toit du Centre national, les quatre nouveaux terrains seront mis à la disposition des athlètes du

centre, des programmes de Tennis Québec et de Tennis Montréal ainsi qu’au grand public, tout comme les

terrains actuels du Stade Uniprix. En plus des terrains, Tennis Canada a construit des nouveaux bureaux pour

les entraîneurs du CNE, un nouveau gymnase à la disposition exclusive des athlètes et des salles d’étude pour

les jeunes.

« Ces terrains de terre battue seront cruciaux pour le développement de nos jeunes joueurs, » a déclaré

Eugène Lapierre, leader du projet. « Nous sommes très fiers de notre nouvelle infrastructure innovatrice et

d’avoir réalisé ce projet en respectant les délais ainsi que le budget alloué.

»Avec les récents succès des jeunes joueurs canadiens issus du CNE Milos Raonic, Rebecca Marino, Eugenie

Bouchard et les soeurs Abanda pour ne nommer que ceux-là, Tennis Canada espère que son investissement

dans le développement de ses jeunes joueurs continue de porter ses fruits.

« Les succès de ces athlètes prouvent que nos récents investissements dans le développement étaient bien

calculés, » a déclaré le Louis Borfiga. « L’ajout de ces terrains donnera à notre centre une crédibilité

internationale additionnelle qui, nous l’espérons, permettra à encore plus de jeunes de se développer en

voulant suivre les traces de leurs nouvelles idoles.

»Les trois paliers de gouvernement et Tennis Canada ont partagé les coûts de cette nouvelle construction qui

ont totalisé 5 200 000 $. Le Fonds pour le développement du sport et de l’activité physique du MELS a investi

plus de 1 600 000 $, le gouvernement fédéral, dans le cadre du programme Infrastructures de loisirs du

Canada, a autorisé une aide de 1 000 000 $, la Ville de Montréal près de 1 300 000 $ et Tennis Canada a

complété le financement du projet en investissant près de 1 300 000 $.

Montreal, June 15, 2011 – Tennis Canada, in partnership with three levels of government, today announced

the addition of four new clay courts on the roof of the National Training Centre (NTC) at Uniprix Stadium. A

first of its kind in Canada, representatives from both sectors were on site today to showcase this innovative

new infrastructure build.

“This is momentous and historical day for tennis in Canada, and a shining example of stakeholders working

together for the greater benefit of excellence in sport,” declared Michael Downey, President and CEO for

Tennis Canada. “We are grateful to our government partners for investing in this ground-breaking project

that reinforces our national commitment to developing athletes and the game of tennis. This project will help

foster success on the world stage in addition to offering active players more opportunities to play.”

The four new rooftop clay courts will be used by NTC athletes, various Tennis Quebec and Tennis Montreal

programs, as well as by the general public, just like the other courts at Uniprix Stadium. In addition, Tennis

Canada has built new offices for the NTC coaches, and a new gym and classroom spaces available

exclusively to the NTC players.

“These clay courts are crucial in the development of our young players,” said Eugène Lapierre, project leader

and Vice-President of Quebec Professional Tennis. “We are very proud of our new, innovative infrastructure

and that we executed the project within the allotted budget.”

With the recent achievements of Canadian NTC players including Milos Raonic (Thornhill, Ont.), Rebecca

Marino (Vancouver, B.C.), Eugenie Bouchard (Westmount, Que.) and the Abanda sisters (Laval, Que.) just

to name a few, Tennis Canada is optimistic that its investment in our nation’s up-and-coming players will

continue to produce positive results.

“The success of these athletes proves that the recent investments we’ve made in development were

definitely worth it,” added Louis Borfiga. “The addition of these courts gives our Centre greater international

credibility, which we hope will encourage more kids to play tennis at a high level and follow in the footsteps of

their idols.”

The three levels of government and Tennis Canada shared the costs associated with this new building,

which totaled $5,200,000. The federal government, as part of the Leisure Facilities of Canada program,

provided $1,000,000. Provincially, the Ministry of Education, Recreation and Sport contributed more than

$1,600,000. At the municipal level, the city of Montreal contributed close to $1,300,000. Tennis Canada

financed the remainder of the capital project with a $1,300,000 investment.
