RAONIC STARTS OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT IN HALLE / RAONIC PART DU BON PIED À HALLE |

Montreal, June 7, 2011 – Just a few days removed from the end of Roland-Garros, players are already looking

ahead to Wimbledon as they compete in various grass court warm up events.

This week, Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) is in Halle, Germany for the Gerry Weber Open, an ATP World Tour

250 event. He played his first round match earlier today against Pablo Andujar of Spain. After a disappointing

showing at Roland-Garros, Raonic posted his first ATP victory on grass with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win. The 20-

year-old hit 12 aces and didn’t face a break point on his serve in the match. In round two, Raonic will face

German Tobias Kamke. The last time the two players met, Kamke defeated Raonic in the final of the Granby

National Bank Challenger last summer.

Marino joins Raonic in the Top 50

After reaching the third round at Roland-Garros, Rebecca Marino (Vancouver, BC) saw her ranking jump 15

spots to a career-high no. 45 on the WTA rankings.

Marino is starting her grass court preparations this week at the AEGON Classic in Birmingham, England, a

WTA International Series event. She opened the tournament yesterday with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Melanie

South of Great Britain and will face Japanese qualifier Rika Fujiwara in the second round.

Dubois in Nottingham

Meanwhile, Stéphanie Dubois (Laval, QC) is playing the $100,000 Nottingham Challenger this week. She won

her opening round match today 6-4, 6-2 over Junri Namigata of Japan.

Wozniak on clay

Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) has opted to stay on the clay for one more week as she is in the draw at

the $100,000 Marseille Challenger in France. She will take on Spaniard Estrella Cabeza-Candela in the opening

round. Wozniak will try and continue her strong play after reaching the second round at Roland-Garros as a

qualifier.

Nestor already back on court

Daniel Nestor (Toronto, ON) didn’t have much time to celebrate his Roland-Garros title as he is back to work

this week on the grass at the AEGON Championships in London, England. Seeded second in the doubles draw

with partner Max Mirnyi of Belarus, the pair benefit from an opening round bye.

Montréal, le 7 juin 2011 – Le tournoi de Roland-Garros est bel et bien terminé, car déjà les joueurs entrevoient

Wimbledon en disputant des tournois préparatoires sur gazon.

Cette semaine, Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) est à Halle, en Allemagne, pour y disputer le Gerry Weber Open,

un tournoi du circuit 250 de l’ATP World Tour. Il a joué son match de premier tour ce matin contre l’Espagnol

Pablo Andujar. Raonic, qui était plutôt déçu de sa prestation à Roland-Garros, voudra certainement se

reprendre sur le gazon. Il a d’ailleurs amorcé le tournoi de belle façon en prenant facilement la mesure de son

adversaire en deux manches de 6-3 et 6-1. L’Ontarien de 20 ans a réussi 12 aces et n’a fait face à aucun point

de bris dans cette victoire convaincante. Il affrontera maintenant l’Allemand Tobias Kamke. Les deux joueurs se

connaissent bien puisque Kamke avait eu raison du Canadien lors de la finale du Challenger de Granby, l’été

dernier.

Marino aussi dans le top 50 mondial

Grâce à sa belle prestation à Roland-Garros où elle a atteint le troisième tour, Rebecca Marino (Vancouver,

BC) a fait un bond de 15 rangs au classement pour ainsi grimper au 45 échelon mondial.

Marino commence aussi sa préparation en vue de Wimbledon à la classique Aegon, un tournoi du WTA disputé

à Birmingham, en Angleterre. Marino a également très bien fait les choses en levée de rideau puisqu’elle a

remporté sa rencontre de premier tour hier en deux manches de 6-4 et 6-1 contre la Britannique Mélanie South.

Elle se mesurera maintenant à la Japonaise Rika Fujiwara, joueuse issue des qualifications.

Dubois à Nottingham

Cette semaine, Stéphanie Dubois (Laval, QC) a plutôt opté pour le Challenger de Nottingham, tournoi du circuit

ITF doté d’une bourse de 100 000 $. Elle disputait son premier match aujourd’hui et alors qu’elle tentait de

consolider sa victoire, la pluie s’est malheureusement mise de la partie et la rencontre a été suspendue. Dubois

est tout de même revenue sur le terrain pour terminer son match et enregistrer une victoire de 6-4 et 6-2 sur la

Japonaise Junri Namigata au moment de l’interruption.

Wozniak sur la terre battue

Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) est la seule Canadienne à avoir choisi de rester une semaine de plus sur

la terre battue. Il faut dire qu’elle a connu beaucoup de succès sur cette surface dans le passé. En effet, elle

prend part au Challenger de Marseille, un tournoi du circuit ITF doté d’une bourse de 100 000 $. Au premier

tour, elle fera face à l’Espagnole Estrella Cabeza-Candela. Wozniak tentera ainsi de poursuivre le beau retour à

la compétition qu’elle a effectué à Roland-Garros en atteignant le deuxième tour après s’être qualifiée.

Nestor déjà de retour sur le terrain

Daniel Nestor (Toronto, ON) n’aura pas eu beaucoup de temps pour célébrer sa couronne parisienne puisqu’il

est déjà de retour au travail cette semaine aux Championnats Aegon à Londres, en Angleterre. En équipe avec

Max Mirnyi, du Bélarus, bénéficiera cependant d’une exemption au premier tour grâce à son statut de deuxième

tête de série.
