Raonic Knocked Out Of Miami  |

Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) played his second round match on Friday at the Sony Ericsson Open, a Masters 1000 event currently underway in Miami, Florida.

The Canadian, who was a seed at an ATP Masters event for the first time in his young career at no. 31,benefited from a first round bye and played India’s Somdev Devaarman, ranked no. 73 in the world, in round two. Devaarman, who is 26 years of age, is enjoying some of the best moments of his career as he reached the round of 16 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells last week where he fell to World No. 1 Rafael Nadal.

Raonic got off to a slow start and quickly trailed 2-5 in the opening set. He fought back, erasing the two break lead to level the set at 5-5, saving four set points along the way. He was not rewarded for his efforts as he dropped the opening set tiebreak. The 20-year-old took the lead early in the second set, but couldn’t hold it and ultimately fell 7-6(5), 7-5.

Raonic will now begin his clay court season. His first stop will be Monte-Carlo where he will play another Masters 1000 tournament.
