Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) reached the second ATP quarter-final of his career on Wednesday at the SAP Open in San Jose, California, an ATP World Tour 250 event.
After defeating world no. 45 Xavier Malisse in the opening round, his fourth win over a Top 50 player this season, Raonic continued to impress today as he disposed of former world no. 5 James Blake in straight sets 6- 2, 7-6(4).
Raonic has yet to drop a set en route to the quarter-finals. In two matches he has served 33 aces and faced only a handful of break points.
In Friday’s quarter-finals, Raonic will take on Richard Berankis of Lithuania, another up and coming player. The 20-year-old Canadian has seen his ATP ranking rise to a career-best no. 84 and he got the chance to meet his idol, Pete Sampras on Monday night when the American legend was in town for an exhibition.
