Australia’s Jelena Dokic had to stay on court for two hour to get past Czech player Lucie Safarova. It took Dokic three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to secure her spot in the second round.
Dokic will be back on court tomorrow (Thursday) to face the winner of Virginie Razzano and Nadia Petrova.
The Australian said after the match, “I’m really happy with my performance, especially the way I played in the second set. Of course, I had very little to lose so I was able to give my all and let fly with my shots. Physically, I was amazed that I didn’t feel more tired in the third set. I don’t think the physical side will pose me too many problems in the next round.”
