Chris Guccione has been forced to withdraw from the final of the Burnie International Challenger event with an achilles injury.

Italy’s Flavio Cipolla was awarded the title after Guccione alerted the tournament director to his injured state. But Guccione hopes that he’ll be back on the court at the next Pro Tour event in Caloundra this week.

The big-serving Melburnian missed several months following an achilles injury at the US Open in 2009 that kept him off the court until August 2010.

In other results from the Burnie International, Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard won her single Burnie title with a tight straight-sets win over Saisai Zheng 6-4 6-3.

In the men’s doubles Australia’s Marinko Matosevic and Jose Statham fell to Canadian duo Philip Bester and Peter Polanksy, 6-4 3-6 [14-12]
