Marin Cilic continued his winning streak in Zagreb: he scored 11th victory in a row on Wednesday. The last victim was Russian Igor Kunitsyn, who caused big problems at the beginning of the match, but tournament’s top seed responded quickly. Čilić won by 7:6 (3), 6:2 reaching the quarterfinals and his next opponent will be German Florian Mayer.
“I was a bit nervous, I was lucky enough to break back immediately. I did not feel great and I have to take care on Friday”, Čilić said.
Kunitsyn was the first one to break opponent’s serve at 2-2 in the first set. Cilic broke back immediately, but it was not the last problem for defending champion. Cilic saved set point at 4:5 with service winner, then hit two aces in a row and it was crucial moment.
In last 11 matches in Zagreb Cilic lost one set only, but it will be a very difficult task for him on Friday. Next opponent is German Mayer, semifinalist in Sydney and quarterfinalist in Brisbane last month.
