Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin won’t be the only former world number 1s in action at the 19th Open GDF SUEZ (February 5-13). On Monday, Maria Sharapova announced via her website that she will play the first round Fed Cup match against France in Moscow on February 5-6 and then the tournament at Coubertin. It will be the no. 16 ranked Russian’s first appearance. She was knocked out of the Australian Open in the round of 16 by Germany’s Andrea Petkovic. Tournament co-directors Amélie Mauresmo and Régis Brunet confirmed Sharapova’s intent to play on Monday afternoon.
