Last year’s finalist at the US Men’s Clay Court Championship, Sam Querrey, has the field for the 2011 event April 4-10 at River Oaks Country Club.
Querrey joins fellow American Mardy Fish in the singles field while three-time champions Bob and Mike Bryan, the No. 1 team in the World, will headline the doubles field.
In 2010, Querrey ended the season with a career high ranking of No. 18 after winning a career-best four titles during the season. His four titles in 2010 were third-most on the ATP circuit, behind only Rafael Nadal (7) and Roger Federer (5).
He also reached a fifth final in 2010, finishing as runner-up at the US Men’s Clay Court Championship at River Oaks. Querrey lost the April final in three sets to Juan Ignacio Chela.
This week Querrey began his 2011 season in Sydney.
“Sam Querrey had a remarkable 2010 season, and we were happy to be a part of it,” said Tournament Director Van Barry. “We look forward to Sam returning to River Oaks. With Sam joining Mardy Fish and the Bryans, I couldn’t be happier with how our field looks with less than three months to go before we get started April 4.”
Fish, the 2006 Houston champion, reached four finals in 2010, winning a pair of titles. He ended the year at a career high ranking of No. 16 having posted a career high for match wins with a 40-14 record in 2010. Fish is 9-7 all-time at the US Men’s Clay Court Championship in singles, and is a two-time doubles champion, teaming with Andy Roddick to claim the title in 2002 and with James Blake to win in 2004.
The Bryans went 11-0 in finals in 2010, and have established a new career record for titles by a team with 67, surpassing the previous record of 61 held by 2010 International Tennis Hall of Fame inductees Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde. The twins from California finished as the No. 1 team in the World for the sixth time in eight years in 2010.
