The qualifying tournament for the SA Tennis Open that begins at Montecasino in Johannesburg on Monday will be played at the venue on Saturday and Sunday.
Play on both days begins at 10 am and the public may come and watch some of the world’s best players in action for free.
In addition, the official draw for the SA Tennis Open will take place at Montecasino outdoors in the Piazza at 2pm on Saturday and the public are invited to attend. Once again there will be no entry fee. Professional players will be in attendance.
The qualifying tournament comprises 32 players with two rounds being played. The four players left standing on Sunday afternoon will have earned their spot in the main draw. There will be 16 matches played on three courts on Saturday and eight matches on Sunday played on two courts. Play begins at 10 am on both days.
For Raven Klaasen there will be no need to qualify. In keeping with the decision of the SA Tennis Association, the winner of the SA National championships would be awarded the third and final wild card.
The other two were given to South Africa’s Rik de Voest and Izak van der Merwe.
