As the beginning of the sixth edition of the PBZ Zagreb Indoors is drawing closer, the number of those interested in the last remaining wild card for the main draw is increasing. Director Branimir Horvat and his assistant for players’ issues Goran Ivanišević have decided to put the first two wild cards into the hands of Croatian players Franko Škugor and Antonio Veić. Consultations about the recipient of the third wild card are still under way.
The request of the Swedish returnee Joachim Johansson has already caught the eye of the two officials, but the name of the thirty-year-old French Davis Cup player Michael LLodra is new on the list of those interested.
The winner of five ATP singles titles and three Grand Slam and Masters Cup doubles titles, Michael is currently ranked 24 on the ATP singles list.
Although he was a double winner in Marseilles last year (in singles and in doubles) and the best on grass in Eastbourne, what tennis fans will surely remember are his tears from Belgrade’s Arena after losing to Viktor Troicki in the decisive Davis Cup final match.
This would not be Llodra’s first visit to the Croatian capital; he was already here for the second edition of the PBZ Zagreb Indoors in 2007. On that occasion he reached the quarter-finals after defeating Kristof Vliegen and Ivo Karlović, but then lost to Austria’s Alexander Peya.
