Australian Open 2011 – Day Six Update

British No.1 Andy Murray (GBR) has charged into the fourth round after a comprehensive victory against No.32 seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez(ESP) on day seven of the Australian Open.

The No.5 seed only conceded four games as he defeated the Spaniard in straight sets, and is now set to face either No.11 seed Jurgen Melzer(AUT) or Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) in the next round.

No. 4 seed Robin Soderling (SWE) continued his perfect start to 2011 by powering to victory against Jan Herynch (CZE) in the opening match in Hisense Arena, while No.10 seed Mikhail Youzhny (RUS) was upset by qualifier Milos Raonic (CAN) in four sets. Exciting Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was also defeated in a five-set thriller against Alexandr Dolgopolov (UKR), with the No.13 seed beginning strongly in the match before fading in the closing sets.

In the women’s draw, No.2 seed Vera Zvonareva (RUS) progressed to the fourth round in straight sets despite being challenged by Lucie Safarova(CZE) in a second set tiebreaker, and US Open champion Kim Clijsters (BEL) defeated Alize Cornet (FRA) in straight sets.
