The ITF Board of Directors has announced today that, in consultation with Tennis Australia and Tennis Queensland, it will donate a minimum of US$25,000 to assist in rebuilding tennis facilities that have been damaged or destroyed due to the devastating floods that have occurred this month. At the same time, the ITF will be in touch with the Brazilian Tennis Federation to determine what assistance we can give Brazil to rebuild tennis facilities following the terrible flooding that has also affected that country this week.
“This century has been marked by terrible ecological disasters including the tsunami in 2004, the earthquake in Haiti last year and the flooding in both Australia and Brazil this year,” said ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti. “We want to commend the players and others in the tennis family who have made important contributions to helping those in need and we want to do our part by helping to rebuild tennis facilities in both Australia and Brazil.
“It is part of the ITF mission to grow tennis around the world but also our responsibility to help our member nations in need. We send our condolences to the families of the dead, our best wishes to those who are injured for a swift recovery and our desire to lend a hand to rebuild the communities affected.”
