Australia’s Jarmila Groth and Alicia Molik are through to the second round at the Moorilla Hobart International. Both players won their matches easily.
Groth beat Sweden’s Johanna Larsson 6-1, 6-3 in 49 minutes. “I was a bit nervous as I haven’t played here in the main draw before,”Groth said.
Alicia Molik had to work harder to take out Swede Sofia Arvidsson in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. Molik said after the match, “I think I showed very positive signs today, particularly playing the important points well.”
Groth will now face qualifier Tamira Paszek, who defeated Australian wildcard Olivia Rogowska in straight sets today. Molik will play Sara Errani from Italia who defeated Anna Chakvetadze on day one.
