The world’s greatest tennis entertainer Mansour Bahrami will return to World Tennis Challenge Adelaide in 2011 and take his place as the wildcard for each of the three nights.
Mansour Bahrami brought the house down each night in 2010, partnering almost all the players across the three nights and entertaining the crowd with the unexpected.
Growing up in Iran, Mansour’s love affair with tennis started with him being a ball boy for 10 cents per hour as he was not permitted to play. However, he began to play tennis and after leaving Iran for France and embarking on the ATP in the twilight of his career he amassed 10 ATP doubles titles and made the French Open final in Doubles. All this was achieved after a decade in the wilderness where he could not play on the ATP tour from 20 – 30 years of age:
“If I have 1 regret, it is that the10 best years of my life which is from when i was 20 to 30 years of age I was not able to play. Three and half years in Iran I could not go out of country and then from age 24 to 30 I played only in France, because with Iranian passport no country would give me a visa. So I just played small tournaments in France and when I was 30 I started to go on the tour which was late.
Mansour’s late run on the ATP tour was not without sucess as in the twilight of his career he was able to reach the final of the French Open doubles in Roland Garros. Mansour has played at all the big events including Wimbledon and Australian Open and indicated that Adelaide’s own tennis event was a huge success.
“The world tennis challenge is one of the best events I have ever played, and the people of Australia are a fantastic great crowd. I love it and am so excited to come back to Adelaide. Also the organisation is so good and professional and I know what I am talking because I travel around 35 weeks a year..”
