The Main Draw Ceremony for the Qatar ExxonMobil open was held on Saturday evening. The President of the Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF), Nasser Ghanim Al Khelaifi, as well as the QTF Board Members and the Tournament Director, Karim Alami, were all present.
Two players were also at the ceremony. Ivo Karlovic, the giant from Croatia, was there to represent the Singles Players. Karolovic is currently ranked number 73 in the world, but has a career high ranking of 14. He has won four ATP Singles Titles.
There to represent the Doubles was the Serbian Nenad Zimonjic, former world number one in the Doubles Rankings. Zimonjic has won 39 titles and is currently ranked second along with his doubles partner Daniel Nestor of Canada. In the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, however, he will be playing with fellow Serbian Viktor Troicki.
The Master of Ceremony for the occasion was Andrew Krasny, who will also be announcing the players on Center Court during the tournament. The draw itself was completed by Carlos Sanches, the ATP Tournament Referee.
The Main Singles Draw is headed by world number one, Rafael Nadal (ESP). In the first round he will meet Karol Beck (SVK). Second seed and world number two, Roger Federer (SWI), will play a qualifier.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) is the third seed and will meet Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo (ESP) in the first round. Fourth seed and defending champion, Nikolay Davydenko (RUS), will play Fabio Fognini (ITA) in his opening match.
In the Main Doubles Draw, Zimonjic/Troicki (SRB) are first seeds and will play Gabashvilli/Kohlschreiber (RUS/GER) in the first round. Rafael Nadal will also be playing doubles with his compatriot Marc Lopez. The Spanish duo is seeded third and have already been successful in Doha, when they won the Qatar ExxonMobil Open Doubles title together back in 2009.
The Qatar ExxonMobil Open starts Monday 3 January at 3.30p.m. at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. The Qualifying Rounds have started on Saturday and continues on Sunday from 3p.m. onwards.
