For the last 6 months, the training schedule has been hard. Six even seven days a week, and injury free. “I’ve had no interruptions this year. When you train extremely hard I feel like always you get some little niggles and you have to take a couple of days off here and there, but this year there has been none of that,”said Lleyton Hewitt.
The training has consisted of a lot of stair work and sand hill running. It’s been a good mix this year. “I still think I can get better. I am still motivated and I want to go out and compete and become a better player”.
Grand Slams are the most important this year. Lleyton is always focusing on making a schedule that best prepares him for the four majors. The ranking will then take care of itself.
Hewitt’s main focus for the summer is the Australian Open. “Between here at the Hopman Cup and the next week at Kooyong, I’m guaranteed six bloody tough matches and that is exactly what I need at the moment.”
Lleyton is back with Tony Roche by his side. He says he respects everything Tony has to say, both on and off the court. “Every time we get on the practice court there is a purpose. He is a tough task master but I think he can bring out the best in my game.”
Davis Cup is something that has been put at the back of Lleyton’s head for the moment. Australia is back in the Asian zone and no match will take place for the next 6 months. “When we find out who we are playing against, I’ll start focusing on Davis Cup.”
Let’s hope Hewitt stays injury free for 2011, he is still a great player, a great competitor with another Grand Slam win in him.
