Peter Bretherton has been elected as President of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held yesterday.
Peter was previously Deputy President of the LTA, and succeeds Derek Howorth as President, at the end of his two year term.
Peter Bretherton said of his appointment: “It’s an enormous honour to be elected as President of the LTA at what is an exciting time for British tennis.
“Over the last few years, we’ve laid the foundations for growth, and now we can build on that by focusing our attention on getting more people playing and enjoying our sport, as well as continuing our work to identify and support the development of talented youngsters.”
Cathie Sabin, a member of the Main Board of the LTA, was elected LTA Deputy President, and becomes the first woman to hold this position.
The AGM, which was held at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, was preceded by an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), at which plans for the incorporation of the LTA were approved. This is the latest step in the ongoing modernisation of the governing body.
The British Tennis Annual was also officially launched at the AGM and is available online.

Alongside this report of activities and investment during 2010, the LTA Main Board also published a progress update on the Blueprint strategy for British tennis, which was launched in 2006.
Derek Howorth, the retiring LTA President, said: “This was the right time to review the Blueprint, and the Main Board is absolutely committed to it as a long term strategy for transforming British tennis. I’m very proud of the progress we have made over the past few years, and I wish Peter every success during his Presidency.”
