There will be something special on offer at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals when the season-ending event is held at the O2 Arena in London between November 21 and 28. On show and to be auctioned for charity will be so-called self-portraits from both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, created by hitting paint-covered tennis balls against a canvas displaying the ATP logo. The ‘masterpieces’ were created last month in Cincinnati.
“It didn’t take too long. It was easy to do,” said Federer. “Obviously it’s something we do all the time you know, hitting tennis balls. It felt like the old times, hitting against the wall and the ball coming back and trying to make something happen. It was not so easy to hit from a long way back but I think I did a good job.”
An injured Nadal failed to win a set at the event last year, but he is looking forward to a better end to the 2010 season
“Making the artwork was fun and something I’ve never done before. It was a challenge to put the balls on the silhouette,” he said. “Last year the crowd and the stadium were amazing although I didn’t play my best tennis. Hopefully this year I will arrive playing well again and will try to do my best in front of the London fans who add such a special feeling to the event.”
